Lauren James' stunner against Denmark leaves England on verge of last 16
Lionesses star shines on World Cup debut as Sarina Wiegman's side close in on knockout berth
Lauren James' stunning early strike helped England to a 1-0 victory over Denmark to leave the Lionesses on the brink of the last 16 at the Women's World Cup. James, starting her first game of the tournament in Sydney, fired home a superb goal after just 18 minutes to give England a deserved lead. The goal was the 21-year-old's first for her country and it proved to be the winner as England held on for a hard-fought victory. The result leaves England top of Group D with six points from two games, while Denmark are bottom with one point. England will now face Australia in their final group game on Tuesday, knowing that a point will be enough to secure their place in the knockout stages. Denmark, meanwhile, must beat China in their final game to have any chance of progressing.
