WEB Tax Convention Revision between the Netherlands and Poland
Protocol Signed and Ratified
On 29 October 2020, government representatives of the Netherlands and Poland signed a protocol to revise the Convention for the avoidance of double taxation between the two countries. The Polish President ratified the protocol on 23 November 2021.
Purpose of the Convention
Tax treaties, like the one between the Netherlands and Poland, determine which country can tax specific types of income. This ensures that individuals and businesses pay taxes on their income and wealth only once.
Key Amendments
The protocol introduces significant amendments to the provisions of the double taxation treaty. These amendments aim to modernize the treaty and align it with current international standards.
Ratification Process
In March 2022, the Dutch authorities announced that the procedures for ratification of the Protocol to the Convention were complete. The Convention is expected to enter into force in 2023.
Benefits of the Convention
The revised Convention provides clarity and certainty for businesses and individuals operating in both the Netherlands and Poland. It helps to prevent double taxation, reduce tax burden, and promote cross-border investment and trade.
